DATES AND FACTS ABOUT RIO CARNIVAL 2019
Almost everyone has heard of the Rio carnival, 500,000 foreign visitors attend this event every year. It is far and beyond one of the most culturally interesting events on the planet, something everyone must experience at least once in their lifetime. Rio Carnival takes place anually, 40 days before Easter, traditionally it starts on a Friday and cumulates on Ash Wednesday, after which life returns to normal until the Easter celebrations.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM CARNIVAL IN RIO?
Rio de Janeiro carnival consists of five days of world class live music, vibrant colors, impressive dancing and a city wide celebration, unrivalled anywhere else in the world. The carnival starts usually on a friday. In which the Carnival King is crowned by the mayor, afterwards the carnival's preliminary parades start. Rio's carnival continues on Saturday with a Street Band Competition in Centro and the Magic Ball at Copacabana Palace Hotel. Sunday is all about samba, which is one of the big highlights of the carnival. This day the Parade of the Samba Schools, in the First League, starts and the night continues with the Marvelous City Ball in Rio Scala. Carnival Monday hosts the Long Live the Beer-Ball, also in Rio Scala. Tuesday is the ending of the Carnival of Rio.
